SUCH BEAUTY TONIGHT
'The moon's a beauty
tonight,' my friend says, so we open the blinds,
search the night sky anxious not to miss her.
The moon, wearing
just enough make-up to get by, nothing flashy,
looks fabulous, smiling just a touch supercilliously.
Nowadays she keeps
every mirror hidden away - why? we wonder,
in our opinion, she's as beautiful as ever.
But what with space-craft,
astronomers, scientists and general busy-bodies,
the moon's become wary of compliments, unbelieving.
Tonight she's 'The Snow' Moon',
such brilliance, such beauty.
